1. Historic Background


The station is the brainchild of co-founders and presenters of the former Qwa Qwa community Radio. After some battle of power, the members decided to start their own radio station as being a radio presenter is their passion to inter act and rebuild the community. Mzansi Connect Radio was initiated in 2019 and managed to acquire offices and studio equipment that assist the station to broadcast globally.

Mzansi Connect Radio  aims to give effect to access to information as stated in the constitution of the republic of South Africa. The station exists through the generous sponsorship of several key public and private donors. Despite the successful launch and implementation of Mzansi Connect Radio station, The Station still faces many challenges.

  • These include the need for further funding, particularly for the maintenance of the existing radio in terms of equipment,
  • Staff training and educational needs, to name a few.


There are several training that staff members have undertaken namely; Administrative, Management, Financial, Programming, Marketing, Journalism etc.


2. Nature of the Radio Station

Currently the station is online broadcasting throughout the universe. We live in a generation where internet use is at its highest, whether connecting to social media to access information or checking mails. Progress is underway to obtain a broadcasting licence in terms of the Broadcasting Act of South Africa.  


2.1. Vision and Mission

The mission of Mzansi Connect Radio Station is to operate an effective, sustainable radio station that will champion development within and around its footprint. To strive for visible and measurable community support locally and globally to ensure that programming content reflects community needs and priorities.


The vision of the Radio is enshrined within its principles, aims and objectives, which are as follows:


Mzansi Connect Radio shall:

  • Have its primary focus on community development, particularly promotion of primary economic development.
  •  Focus on all social ills such as problems of social education, unemployment, poverty, lack of entertainment, tribalism, racism and abuse of human rights in communities within its broadcasting footprint.
  •  Apply affirmative action policies to redress the historic imbalances.
  •  Not broadcast any material that promotes hatred, discrimination against an individual or a group on basis of race, sex, age mental or physical ability or sexual orientation.
  • Strive to be self-reliant to ensure that funders and commercials interest does not overlook its listener’s responsibilities.
  •  Air material in a comprehensive, balanced, articulate context, while actively promoting local content and development.
  •  Be apolitical in nature and refrain its involvement from any individual or party whom it believes promote hatred, discrimination against an individual or a group or class of individuals on the basis of race, religion, nationality or ethnic origin, hue or colour, sex, age, mental or physical abilities or sexual orientation.
  •  Pledge to practice equal treatment to all people within and outside its broadcasting footprint in terms of participation in programs ; however, the programming department reserves the editorial rights.


3. The Station Language Policy


The station will broadcast content with these three languages:


English – 52%

South Sotho – 40%

Zulu – 8%

3.2. Age Group:

Over half of  the global population 26%  is below 19 years of age and 48% form part of the economically active group between 20 and 59 years of age, while 26% are older than 60 Men and women.


3.3. Hours of broadcast:

The station broadcast 24/7.


4. Programming Format


The radio station has a programming format of 50% talk and 50% music in the daily broadcast.  It shall broadcast South African music content of 60% daily. The Radio Station shall broadcast a total of 90 minutes of local news, 90 minutes of national news and 90 minutes of international news per day.
